Monday the kids had school and then we went to the public pool. I imagine once school is out we will be spending a fair amount of time there so I'm going to buy a season pass. It's a pretty nice facility with a large pool with 2 diving boards and a high platform, a kids area, ping pong tables, minigolf, 5 volleyball courts. They have a snack bar with burgers and pizza and ice cream although I'll probably bring our own food.
Yesterday we had a great day as we met a neighborhood girl that the kids will be able to hang out with. She is a native German but her dad is American so she's bilingual which is awesome. They played last night and have plans to play again tonight. Hopefully this will lead to more friends in the neighborhood. The girls have been very concerned about neighborhood friends since they have such great friends at home. We met the mother and she was very nice to so maybe mom and dad will make some friends as well.
We are starting to plan our first two trips - a long weekend in Prague over the 4th of July and then Lake Como for a week toward the end of July. Sounds like my mom may join us for that which will be great. If anyone has been to either and has any recommendations we are all ears.

Haaken's car looks more reliable than the Hoopty.
ReplyDeleteNice pictures. Looks like fun. I wanted to ask you if there is any world cup hysteria going on in Germany? I think it starts this Friday and Noddy is approaching hysteria... You should go to a local german bar and watch Germany's first game, drink, and take a bunch of pictures.
ReplyDeleteCourtney says *What happened to taking Elise to Paris for her birthday? Didn't you suggest that prior to your trip:)???!!!"
ReplyDeleteLauren and Lilly say - "I love you Elise, Lydia and Haaken. We have two more days left of school." Lauren wants you to know she has two missing front teeth! And she is singing the last day of school (Yankee Doodle and The Grand Old Flag).
Elise's birthday isn't until the 18th - they still have time.
ReplyDeleteDad always wanted you and Luke to be bilingual. You wouldn't cooperate.
ReplyDeleteWe stayed in the town of Bellagio on Lago di Como. It's a lovely town, very peaceful. But that was before kids when we could sit on the hotel roof and just relax all day and watch the lake traffic float around below. I loved it. The drive up and along the lake was cool too. We drove through Como, which seemed like a nice town. Before the lake area, we stopped at a chocolate factory. I belive it was in Bellinzona, but I could be wrong. I'm sure the kids would love a tour of a chocoalte factory. It's a dentist's dream place too, so Carissa would enjoy it. I'm glad you are finally relaxing and thinking about enjoying this experience, rather than stressing out about the little details like housing and transportaion. I'm proud of you.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, I made a major mistake. The chocolate factory wasn't in Bellinzona. It was in Lugano, Switzerland, just across the border from Bellinzona. It's called Schokoland. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteAlright, so I had time to check my facts from our trip and they get more and more factual as I think about it. I'm sorry about the confusion. The only remaining error I need to correct is that Bellinzona isn't in Italy. It's in Switzerland, north of Lugano. We started the day in Luzern, CH and drove to Bellagio, IT. On our way we first stopped in Bellinzona, CH and spent an hour or two at Castlegrande. It's a really cool old castle with a mountainous backdrop. From there we drove to Schokoland in Lugano, after which we drove to Bellagio. That's exactly how it went down, and I won't change the story again. it was as perfect of a day as you could get. I'll never forget it...
ReplyDeleteI'm ready for a new blog entry.
